Welgegund, our 35ha farm, tucked away at the foot of the Hawequa mountain range, on the road known as ‘the horseshoe’, has a historic pedigree. Established in 1777, Welgegund was once owned by Cecil John Rhodes, as one of the best farms in the Boland and was eventually consolidated after his death into Rhodes Fruit Farms.
It is as a wine farm though that Welgegund has truly come into its own - creating award-winning wines since it’s first bottling decades ago. This proud winemaking heritage continues to inspire us in our quest to craft wines of origin and distinction.
The Manor house is featured in the book "The old buildings of the Cape" and is on the register of Provincial Heritage Sites.
