The 2025 harvest at Meerlust Estate started about 8 to 10 days later than normal, with Pinot Noir being the first to enter the cellar. "We harvested almost all of the Pinot Noir, before the first blocks of chardonnay were picked this year, which is quite unusual," commented Wim Truter.
In general the growing conditions for this season were very good. We saw mild temperatures with a dry spring and dry summer, and as a result we experienced very low disease pressure during the growing season. Although we had a brief heat spell during December, the cooler night time temperatures experienced are great for phenolic development and colour for this season's reds. We're seeing wines with beautiful deep ruby red colours, that also have rich and properly ripe tannins.
Harvest will also end off a bit later than usual, with this week and next seeing the cellar full on with Cabernet Sauvignon, and with Petit Verdot closing the curtain on harvest 2025 during the week of the 17th March.
"We're truly excited to follow the journey of the wines from 2025, its promising to be a beautiful vintage," says Wim.
