Meerlust Merlot 2018

Brick red colour with crimson edge. Typical Merlot characteristics on nose with ripe plum and dark cherry notes underpinned by some dried herbs and oak spice. The palate is plush while still delicate on the finish, showing complex cherry tobacco flavours coupled with a fine acidity. This wine shows the intensity and concentration of the 2018 vintage and as with all Merlot’s from the estate, will age gracefully and will gain in complexity and suppleness of tannin for many years to come.

Deep, youthful purple colour with a ruby rim. The medium-full bodied palate offers generous, ripe, pure Merlot fruit with refreshing acidity, structured yet silky tannins and pronounced length and minerality. Meerlust Merlot 2015

2015 was a watershed vintage for our Merlot. We have been refining the viticulture to produce more balanced, flavourful fruit. This, coupled with the perfect conditions of 2015 has produced our best Merlot yet. Deep, youthful purple colour with a ruby rim. Meerlust Red 2011

The wine has an intense, dark purple colour with a violet rim; bright and vivacious in the glass, youthful. The nose is expressive with powerful cassis, plum, exotic spice and hints of floral aromas. On the palate the wine is medium-bodied with intense flavours of crushed black fruit, cassis, vanilla and dark chocolate. The tannins are soft and silky, the acidity fresh, the flavour profile focused and linear. The wine has a persistent and long-lasting aftertaste.

Meerlust Merlot 1999

The wine's bouquet is fruity with cassis and plum. On the palate it is full with fine tannins and an excellent balance. It will age very well for up to 12 years.

Meerlust Merlot 2000

Intense, dark plum colour, still very youthful. Blue berry and black cherry bouquet, with a hint of minerals and cedar wood.

Meerlust Merlot 2001

Basel Wine Fair September 2006, Switzerland - Certificat d'honneur with 86 points
Very intense, almost purple black in colour, very lively & bright. Typically Merlot on the nose with juicy plum & mulberry fruit, followed by a pronounced spicyness, cloves & liquorice bouquet. The wine is also starting to show secondary characteristics of red earth, chocolate & ink on the nose, as well as a smoked meat complexity. The Merlot is full bodied with mouth-filling juicy fruit opulence, creamy richness and very soft, textured tannins. There is a core of richness & structure which will open up as the wine matures.

Meerlust Merlot 1996

A blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine has a very intense, dark plum color. Its nose exhibits themes of black and red berry fruits, combined with rich spiciness and cedar wood perfumes. The palate is mouthfilling, supple and succulent with robust tannins and fresh acidity. Nice warm finish. A very elegant and balanced wine that willl age beautifully. Serve with red meats, game and strong cheeses.

Meerlust Merlot 1989

A blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Bred to a deep garnet color, Meerlust Merlot 1989 displays the finesse and distinction one would expect from a classics Merlot. Mellow, velvety with a hint of sweetness imparted by the berries, this complex wine is full-bodied and the splendid result of a good vintage year. Because of its tremendous concentration, this Merlot has the potential of greatly improving in complexity in the bottle.

Meerlust Merlot 2004

Intense, deep plum-black colour with cerise rim. The nose is vivacious with ripe plum, mulberry and creamy fruit with hints of fennel, ink and spices. The palate is rich and opulent densely packed with ripe Merlot fruit and supported by silky soft, sleek tannins. The wine has excellent length with a lingering aftertaste.
